Atlanta United will face Nashville SC in the team’s first match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium since the second matchday of the regular season in early March.
This will be the the second meeting between both teams, as United defeated Nashville 2-0 in the opening match of the 2020 season. For Atlanta, this will be the first of six matches in the first phase of the continuation of the regular season.
Now, for the Five Stripes, the squad will attempt to snap its four-match losing streak and will also look to score its first goal in over 400 minutes. United recently completed in the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, where the team lost each match with a 1-0 scoreline.
For Atlanta, this match will signify several firsts, such as:
— It will be the first match the team will play since “mutually agreeing” to end Frank De Boer’s tenure.
— This will be interim coach’s Stephen Glass first match in charge of the Five Stripes.
— It could also be the first opportunity to watch the two new signings, Jurgen Damm and Erick Torres.
— And most importantly, it will be the first-ever match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium played without any fans in attendance.
At the moment, Atlanta sits in ninth place of the Eastern Conference with six points, two wins and three losses.
Meanwhile for Nashville, this will be the team’s third match in the last 10 days. During its last two matches, the team picked up a 1-0 win and a 0-0 draw, both times against FC Dallas.
Nashville was one of the two teams that was unable to play in the MLS is Back Tournament due to many players testing positive for COVID-19.
