We are alive bright and early Saturday September 23rd. The Auburn Tigers take the field in College Station at noon against the Texas A&M Aggies. Tigers play against their first opponent in the SEC.
Auburn will need to hit the ground running more so than their last games. When Auburn played against California they started slow but playing against an in conference team cannot be the motto. Head coach Hugh Freeze will need to send a message to the rest of the SEC that Auburn can handle any team in the SEC. Auburn currently sits at second in the west within the SEC conference. The Tigers haven’t been 4-0 since 2019, Hugh Freeze getting this team to 4-0 will definitely say a lot about how he gets his players prepared for big matchups.
Tigers will need all playmakers to show up. We know what this team can do from a standpoint on offense. This offense can hit you deep and hit you in the mouth with the run game. But the RPO’s will be key for them to keep the Aggie defense off balance. We have seen in this stage of modern football, RPO’s are big for a spread offense and it makes it hard for defense to keep up. The fact that Payton Thorne can throw it to his leading receiver Jay fair within the pocket and make something happen with his legs will be huge.
As far as the Aggies go, they are favored for this match up at 67%. Texas A&M isn’t shy from the big stage either, they have recently played a tough game against the Miami Hurricanes two weeks ago. A key matchup will be how Connor Weigman does against the Auburn Defense. Weigman has a grand total of 909 passing yards which is roughly 300 yards per game. We will see how Jimbo Fisher attacks the Auburn Tigers.
