Atlanta United learns opponents in MLS is Back Tournament

The MLS is Back Tournament draw has taken place and Atlanta United has learned its first three opponents.

United was drawn in Group E and will be joined by FC Cincinnati, New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew SC. 

As previously announced, the tournament will kick-off July 8 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. Broadcast details and the entire match schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks. 

In the MLS is Back Tournament, the top two teams from each group and the four best third-place teams will advance to the knockout phase. The points a team will accumulate in the group matches will also count towards the regular season standings.

The winner of the tournament will not only receive a money-prize of $1.1 million, but the winning team will also earn a bid to the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.

Here is an overview of each group after the draw:

Group A: Orlando City SC, Inter Miami, New York City FC, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire, Nashville SC

Group B: Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps, San Jose Earthquakes

Group C: Toronto FC, New England Revolution, Montreal Impact, DC United

Group D: Real Salt Lake, Sporting Kansas City, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United

Group E: Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati, New York Red Bulls, Columbus Crew SC

Group F: Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy, Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers
