Atlanta United has signed defender Brooks Lennon from Real Salt Lake for the 2020 season.
The Five Stripes paid $150,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $150,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) for the 22-year old defender.
“Brooks is a versatile young player and we are pleased to add him to our club,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “In addition to his vast experience on the international level with U.S. Youth National Teams, he has proven to be a reliable starter in MLS. He can play both fullback and wing positions and we expect him to have an integral role in our long-term plans.”
Lennon began his soccer career with RSL, but then signed overseas and spent two years with current Champions League winners Liverpool. Lennon came back to the U.S. in 2017. In his three seasons in Utah, Lennon appeared in 86 games and scored three goals and added 10 assists.
Lennon has not made his debut with the senior U.S. National Team but he has represented the U.S. in the U-17, U-20 and U-23 categories. The Arizona native was recently capped by the U-23 that participated in the United International Football Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as the team prepares for Olympic qualifiers.
