Atlanta United’s Andrew Carleton has been officially loaned out to Indy Eleven, a club that plays in the USL Championship for the rest of the 2020 season.
“We believe it is time for Andrew to challenge himself in a new environment,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “We remain optimistic about his future and are looking forward to seeing what he will accomplish with Indy.”
Carleton, 19 and from Powder Springs, was the club’s first homegrown signing and appeared in 11 matches over his three seasons with the Five Stripes. The midfielder also played in 29 matches with Atlanta United 2 in the last two years, where he scored seven goals and provided four assists.
Carleton was left off the squad and celebration by former manager Tata Martino when United won the 2018 MLS Cup due to some missteps. Under Frank De Boer, Carleton was chosen to be in the 18-man squad to travel to Toronto but was left behind when Carleton forgot his passport and was sent down to Atlanta United 2.
