#Georgiatech, #404, #Yellowjackets, Georgia Tech pull off upset over FSU

Georgia Tech gets a huge win at McCamish Pavilion over 16th ranked Florida State, 76-65. Georgia Tech notched its fourth straight ACC home win. Florida State had its win streak end on Saturday and couldn’t close out an undefeated January.

The Seminoles’ offense struggled against the Yellow Jackets after coming into the game averaging 78 points per game for the season. Senior guard MJ Walker struggled in his homecoming back to Atlanta. Walker is from the Riverdale area and leads the Seminoles in scoring this season, averaging 13.7 points per game. Walker scored only eight points and fouled out with a little under seven minutes left in the game.

Junior forward Raiquan Gray tied his season-high by scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Gray led the way for the offense, but it wasn’t enough. He was the only Seminole to score in double figures for the day.

The Seminoles offense finished the day shooting 21 percent from three, shot 60 percent from the free-throw line, and had 22 turnovers for the game. The 65 total points scored was the lowest for January.

On the Yellow Jackets’ side of things, they had one of their better offensive games. The Yellow Jackets got massive games from three of their best players. Senior forward Moses Wright scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Michael Devoe scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and made three of his attempted seven three-pointers. Jose Alvarado, the senior point guard who also leads the team in scoring, had 21 points and six assists.

The Yellow Jackets played with intensity defensively, which led to easy baskets for them offensively. They had 13 steals, scored 22 points off turnovers, and 19 fastbreak points for the game.

The Yellow Jackets’ head coach Josh Pastner had this to say after his team big win on Saturday:

“Great win for the Jackets. Really proud of our young men. Obviously, Florida State’s very, very good. I said it in the media this week; they’re a team that’s good enough to go to the Final Four, good enough to win a national championship. We’re going to have to play near perfect to have an opportunity to beat ’em. And we really played well.”

Florida State will look to bounce back when they continue their road trip at Boston College on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Georgia Tech will look for another upset when they go on the road to take on the 25th ranked Louisville Cardinals on Monday, Feb.1.
