Georgia Tech gets a big win to close out the regular season at home and send seniors out the right way. Saturday afternoon was senior day on ‘The Flats’ and the wrap of the Yellow Jackets regular season. The Yellow Jackets pick up the series win over North Carolina with a 10-6 victory in the final game of the weekend series.

The Yellow Jackets had right-hand freshman pitcher Marquis Grissom Jr. get the start Saturday afternoon. Grissom had a nice outing with five innings pitched, giving up five hits with two runs, had three strikeouts, and picked up the first win of his early college career. The Yellow Jackets’ offense picked up right where it left off Friday night. In Saturday’s contest, the team combined for twelve hits and scored another ten runs. Austin Wilhite, the senior second baseman, led the way going two for four at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

North Carolina offense and bullpen struggled in the series finale. Offensively, for most of the game, they struggled. Early on, they got down 9-1 and couldn’t get the offense going until late in the game, and that wasn’t enough. The Tar Heels finished the day with eleven hits, two home runs, and six runs scored but left eleven batters stranded. In the ninth inning, they scored three of those six runs total scored, but the game ended fittingly. With two outs, bases loaded, and the scoring run at the plate, Max Reimer was brought in to DH, and he struck out on a 0-2 pitch.

The Yellow Jackets locked up the No.2 seed in the ACC and the ACC-Coastal division title with the series win. They also finish the season 28-21 overall and 21-15 in the ACC. The ACC Coastal division is the second in a row for the Yellow Jackets.

The Tar Heels finished the season 26-22 overall and 18-18 in the ACC. They will be the No.6 seed in Pool C heading into the ACC Tournament.

The ACC Tournament starts Tuesday, May 25th, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Georgia Tech will await the winner of Clemson and Louisville in pool play. North Carolina will face the University of Pittsburgh in pool play.
