Atlanta United announced Monday morning that it has signed Brazilian midfielder Matheus Rossetto.
Rossetto, 23, was acquired from Athletico Paranaense for an undisclosed fee.
“Matheus is a technically gifted midfielder who gets around the field well,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He fits our club profile, having already played in 70-plus league matches at only 23-years-old, along with international experience in Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. We’re pleased to add him to the team and look forward to him strengthening our midfield immediately.”
Rossetto has played his entire soccer career with Athletico Paranaense and appeared in 71 matches, during which time scored five goals.
Rossetto was part of the squad that won the Copa Sudamericana in 2018. Atlanta’s Ezequiel Barco helped Independiente win the same tournament in 2017.
Rossetto also appeared in 11 matches and started in seven in the 2017 Copa Libertadores, the highest club tournament in South America.
The Five Stripes announced today the team will play its last preseason match on Feb. 11 against Leones Negros in Guadalajara, Mexico.
At the moment, United has played three preseason matches and will play its fourth one Saturday afternoon against Legion FC in Birmingham, Alabama.
Afterwards, the club will travel to Guadalajara for a final training camp before facing Motagua in the CONCACAF Champions League on Feb. 18.
