Recap from Atlanta United’s Friday training session

Julian Gressel scored the game winner against Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference Semifinals

During Friday’s Atlanta United training session, different topics were discussed between Julian Gresel, Pity Martinez and Ezequiel Barco.

The moment Gressel stepped out to his media session, he issued a statement regarding his contract situation with the club:

It’s important to remember that Darren Eales has said in various interviews that due to the negotiations of the new CBA, the team does not know what the new policies will be and therefore are waiting on the CBA to be signed, and then they could offer Gressel a new contract. Gressel has expressed his displeasement about a new contract not being offered in the past.

Over his three seasons with the Five Stripes, Gressel has scored 15 goals and provided 35 assists.

The current collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of January.

Meanwhile, Pity Martinez expressed his desire to have a great season with Atlanta and he mentioned that he and the team finished the season on a high note, despite losing in the Eastern Conference Final, and he expects the team to pick up where they left off.

When asked about rumors of him leaving for another team, Martinez said that there are always rumors in social but he’s not paying attention to those and he’s totally focused with Atlanta and the upcoming season and he hopes to be back with Argentina’s National Team in the future, which is really important to him.

For Barco, he said that he feels good to be back in Atlanta and hopes to feature more this than last year. Barco missed many matches last season due to injuries and call ups with the Argentina national Team. When asked about his thoughts on European teams interested in him, Barco said that he reads the same things that everyone else does but it doesn’t mean anything, his focus is to win matches with Atlanta and helping the team win titles, starting with the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Five Stripes will now head to Florida for a two-week training session and will play three friendlies while there.
