Atlanta United 2 has signed Paraguayan Erik Lopez via loan for the rest of 2020. Lopez will then join Atlanta United’s first team in a permanent transfer in January of 2021. Lopez is pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa; once the documents are approved, he will join the Atlanta United 2 roster.
“We’re excited to add a quality young forward in Erik to our club,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “Although only 18 years old, he already has first team and international experience playing in Paraguay’s top division and in the Copa Libertadores. He is a versatile forward with great instincts and movement. He was highly sought after and we are pleased he chose to sign with our club. We look forward to watching him flourish in the coming years.”
Lopez, from Asuncion, Paraguay, has played his entire soccer career with Olimpia, a team he joined at 13 years old. He made his senior debut on Aug. 25, 2019. Lopez has also recently featured for the Under-23 Paraguayan National Team. During Olympic qualifying earlier in 2020, Lopez was the only 18-year-old in the roster and he played in four matches and was in the starting 11 in one of them.
