Atlanta United has acquired winger Luis Manuel Castro on loan from Estudiantes de La Plata from Argentina’s Primera Division.
According to a release by the club, Castro’s loan will last six months but there is an option to extend the loan until the end of 2020. The amount of the loan was not disclosed.
“Manuel is a versatile winger with valuable experience in both the Argentine and Uruguayan first divisions and he’ll add solid competition to our attack,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “His work rate and willingness to run both ways fits in with our dynamic style of play. We look forward to welcoming him to Atlanta and into our team.”
Castro has played professional soccer in Uruguay and Argentina and made his professional debut at 19 years old with Montevideo Wanderers in 2014.
The 24-year-old winger played for Montevideo Wanderers between 2014 and 2018 and appeared in 87 matches, having scored 17 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, including Copa Libertadores.
He transferred to Estudiantes de La Plata in January of 2019 and during his time in Argentina, he played in 27 matches and scored three goals.
Castro becomes the second player from Estudiantes de La Plata to join Atlanta United, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez was acquire from the same club in 2016.
