GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Taylor Leath was selected as the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week, while Duke’s Payton Schwantz was named the Freshman of the Week.
Leath helped North Carolina to wins over LIU Brooklyn and LSU, sweeping the Carolina Classic. A redshirt junior outside hitter from Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, Leath racked up 43 kills on a .360 hitting percentage, and added 18 digs and three blocks. The preseason All-ACC honoree set a new 25-point rally-scoring record with 27 kills against LSU, the most kills by a Tar Heel in a match since 2005.
Schwantz was key in Duke’s undefeated weekend, helping the Blue Devils claim the Fight in the Fort at TCU title with wins over TCU, Utah Valley and Lehigh. The rookie outside hitter from Frisco, Texas, recorded double-digit kills in all three matches, and added 17 digs and six blocks. Schwantz was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.
ACC Volleyball resumes play when Boston College travels to Harvard on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match.
