A goal at the 89th minute by Jordan Siebatcheu was just enough for the US National Team to earn a 1-0 victory over Honduras in the Nations League semifinal. With the win, the USMNT will advance to the final, where it will face the winner of the second semifinal, between Mexico vs. Costa Rica, Sunday afternoon in Denver, Colorado.
In the play of the goal, John Brooks chipped the ball to Weston Mckenzie, who then headed it towards Siebatcheu, who then scored off a diving header and past Honduras goalkeeper Luis Lopez.
In the first half, both teams had clear goal scoring opportunities, such as Gio Reyna’s shot that was just wide of the goal in the 10th minute. Later on, Honduras forward Alberth Elis almost broke the deadlock score but USA’s Josh Sargent cleared the ball right on the goal line.
In the second half, the match looked on its way to penalty kicks but Siebatcheu’s goal ended the match in regulation time.
