ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia soccer team is ranked eighth in the initial United Soccer Coaches national rankings, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
This is the first time the Bulldogs have been ranked since 2014, when the team reached a No. 20 ranking in late September.
Georgia opened this season with a 1-0 over South Carolina, a team that finished the 2019 season ranked No. 6. The win marked the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Gamecocks since 2014.
Due to the impact of the pandemic on fall schedules, only teams competing in the fall were considered for the polls. The number of teams appearing in each ranking is also lower due to the lower number of teams competing. The women’s poll features a Top 15. There are no regional rankings.
Georgia is the second Southeastern Conference team on the list, behind Texas A&M who checked in at No. 5.
The Bulldogs are on the road this week at Florida. The teams face off on Sunday, September 27 at noon.
