Florida Gators Dominate Iowa Hawkeyes in Outback Bowl 30-3

The No. 17 Florida Gators won the Outback Bowl. They defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 30-3 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The Gators ended their season with a 9-4 record. The Hawkeyes fell to 8-5 with their season-ending loss. Iowa fell to 2-3 all-time in the Outback Bowl. With the win, Florida improved to 3-2 in this bowl game.

Florida is also 2-1 all-time against the Hawkeyes. The Gators defense allowed just 267 yards – and they were without several key players. Akrum Wadley, the Hawkeyes junior running back, had 115 yards by himself and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on the season. Hawkeyes senior back LeSun Daniels Jr. was also a 1,000-yard back for Iowa. He ended their season with 1,058 yards. Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard was held to 55 passing yards and 11 rushing yards. He was also injured his shoulder early in the game. Florida had 567 yards and was without starting quarterback Luke Del Rio. Austin Appleby had 222 passing yards and accounted for two touchdowns.


Appleby hit Mark Thompson for an 85-yard touchdown. He also hit DeAndré Goolsby for a six-yard touchdown. The Gators would not be outdone as they also scored a touchdown. Chauncey Gardner intercepted Beathard for a 58-yard pick-six. Florida kicker Eddy Piñeiro also made three field goals.
