Erick “Cubo” Torres re-signs with Atlanta United

Forward Erick “Cubo” Torres has re-signed a new contract with Atlanta United, the club announced Wednesday morning. The press release also indicates Torres will take on a more direct role working alongside Academy players and staff.

“Cubo has been a positive influence on our organization and we’re pleased he has chosen to re-sign with the club,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “While he provides competition to our group of forwards, he’s a veteran presence who understands the league and has shown a willingness to mentor our younger players.”

Torres joined the Five Stripes last season as a Season-Ending Injury Replacement Player. Overall, he appeared in 13 matches, started in four matches and had one goal and one assist.

The Mexican international has appeared in 230 matches and has scored 65 goals in club play and has also featured for the Mexico National Team. Torres has played for clubs such as Club Tijuana in Liga MX and also played for now-defunct Chivas USA and Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.
