Bulldogs Shine on Third Day of ITA All-American Championships

Cary, N.C. —  The Georgia women’s tennis team shined bright as it picked up four wins on the third day of the ITA All-American Championships on Monday.

In doubles action, the tandem of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova powered through their ITA tournament debut with back-to-back victories on the day.

In the round of 64, Mert and Vidmanova faced off against Ellison Reynoldson and Ariel Johnson (Wisconsin). With more experience under their belts as a pairing, Mert and Vidmanova pushed through the early-going and took the 8-5 victory.

Advancing to the round of 32, the duo met against Shavit Kimchi and Elizabeth Coleman (Duke). A much more grueling battle between both sides saw the pro-set go the full distance to six games apiece. Mert and Vidmanova took over late to secure the 8-6 victory, earning the duo a spot in the round of 16 with a trip to the doubles main draw rounds on the line.

On the singles side, junior Mai Nirundorn and sophomore Anastasiia Lopata both picked up victories on the day. Carrying a three-match winning streak from pre-qualifying into her qualifying round matchup against Emma Jackson (Duke), Nirundorn did not skip a beat as she made quick work of her opponent with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in straight sets.

Lopata, who earned a spot in the qualifying draw, opened up her first match against Julia Fliegner (Michigan). Despite dropping the first set 6-2, Lopata responded in dominant fashion in the ensuing two sets as she secured a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 three-set victory to advance into the round of 64.

All four Bulldogs will be back in singles and doubles action on Tuesday as they look to advance deeper into the ITA All-American Championships.
