Atlanta United announced Tuesday afternoon that it has re-signed goalkeeper Alec Kann.
Kann only made two starts in 2019, a win against the Charleston Battery in the U.S. Open Cup and also a during a 3-2 victory over Mexico’s Club America in Campeones Cup.
“Over the last three years, Alec has consistently worked hard on a daily basis to be prepared to step up when his name is called and we’re pleased to have re-signed him,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. “He brings a level of competition and experience to our group of goalkeepers that is vital and is something we strive for at every position.”
Kann was acquired in the 2016 expansion draft and was the team’s starting goalkeeper through the first half of the 2017 season before Brad Guzan arrived from England.
Overall, Kann, a Decatur native, will play in his eighth season of his MLS career in his hometown team.
Also, the club announced that it has signed newly acquired Brooks Lennon to a multiyear contract.
Lennon was acquired on Dec. 2 from Real Salt Lake for $300,000 in Allocation Money and now the defender will stay with Atlanta until the 2023 season.
