Atlanta United announced players Brad Guzan, Ezequiel Barco, Pity Martinez, and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez had been voted by fans to participate in this year’s MLS All-Star game, which will take place in Orlando’s Exploria Stadium against Atletico Madrid on July 31.
For Guzan and Barco, this will be their second time playing in this match, while for Martinez and Gonzalez Pirez this is their first All-Star selection. This season, Barco has scored four goals and added one assist while Guzan has kept a clean sheet in eight matches and allowed only 11 goals, which is the lowest in MLS this season so far.
Meanwhile, for Martinez, he has scored once in his 14 appearances with the Five Stripes and Gonzalez Pirez has won 64 percent of his duels. The All-Star game will be played towards the end of a busy July for Atlanta, with the team playing nine matches before the MLS All-Star game and then hosting the LA Galaxy on August 3rd, so let’s hope the players suffer no injuries while playing with the best of MLS.
The rest of the All-Star roster will be announced at a later date, which will consist of two picks by the commissioner and 11 players picked by All-Star Head Coach James O’Connor, so it is possible that more United players could be chosen to take part in the match against Atletico Madrid.
