Redshirt freshman quarterback Hank Brown led Auburn to a resounding 45-19 victory over New Mexico in the Tigers’ Homecoming game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Brown completed 17 of 25 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns, while Jarquez Hunter rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown.
Brown, who claimed the starting job after Payton Thorne’s struggles against California, impressed in his first start. He avoided major mistakes and made several key throws, including a perfect 50-yard strike to KeAndre Lambert-Smith. Auburn’s offense also benefited from Hunter’s strong performance, as he consistently gained yards and helped the Tigers control the tempo of the game.
The Tigers’ defense also played well, forcing New Mexico to commit 16 penalties for 112 yards. Despite the Lobos’ efforts, Auburn’s superior talent and execution proved to be too much to handle.
Auburn’s victory was their 33rd consecutive Homecoming win, extending their impressive streak at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers dominated the game from start to finish, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess.
Brown’s performance was particularly impressive. His accuracy and decision-making were on point, and he was able to spread the ball around to a variety of receivers. Hunter also played a key role in Auburn’s offensive success, consistently gaining yards and providing a reliable option for Brown.
The Tigers’ defense was equally impressive, limiting New Mexico’s offensive opportunities and forcing turnovers. Auburn’s defensive line was particularly effective, generating pressure on the Lobos’ quarterbacks and disrupting their passing game.
Auburn’s victory was a much-needed boost of confidence heading into Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers have a talented team and are capable of competing with the best teams in the conference. If they can continue to play at this level, Auburn could be a dark horse contender for a bowl game.
While the Tigers still have plenty of work to do to prove themselves in the SEC, this victory is a step in the right direction.
